There were a total of nine goals scored today, but it was the host SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team that came out with a hard fought, 5-4 victory against visiting SUNY Potsdam in SUNYAC action.  Oneonta (3-9/1-3) scored three goals in the first period and two in the third period, as they grinded out a key win in the conference playoff race on senior day.

Senior Jimmy van de Veerdonk scored a pair of goals in the opening quarter while freshman Devon Casey added two assists in helping Oneonta gain a 3-1 lead after the first period.

A pair of goals by senior Derek Frost got Potsdam (5-4/1-2 SUNYAC) back to 3-3 going into halftime.

The final goals of the game would come in the third period with Oneonta scoring two of the three goals in the quarter.  Freshman Josh Heller gave the Red Dragons a 4-3 lead midway through the quarter before Jared Flath tied the game with an unassisted goal less than one minute later.

The game-winning goal would come from Casey who tallied an unassisted goal with 5:24 remaining in the third period.

Both goalies were solid today between the pipes.  Senior Chris Miles registered 12 saves for Oneonta while his counterpart, senior Stefan Sloma made 24 saves.

Oneonta has two games remaining in the regular season and must win both to have any chance of qualifying for the SUNYAC tournament.  The Red Dragons will be at Oswego on Apr. 20 while they travel to Brockport in the season finale on Apr. 27.
