The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team ended its four-game skid last night with a 13-10 victory against Marywood University at Stony Brook University. The Red Dragons held a decided 45-31 shot advantage in running its season record to 2-5 overall while the Pacers fell to 2-7.
Oneonta got through the first period with a 3-1 lead thanks to a pair of goals by senior Nicholas Sorrillo. Freshman Connor Coyle added a goal and an assist in the period.
The second period was all Oneonta, as they put up six goals to take a commanding 9-3 lead at halftime. Coyle and senior Jimmy van de Veerdonk each scored a pair of goals in the quarter while junior Daniel Stern added a goal and an assist.
The tables turned in the third quarter with the Pacers asserting itself with six unanswered goals after Coyle opened the third period with a goal to increase the Red Dragons lead to 10-3.
Oneonta regained control of the game in the fourth with three goals to Marywood's one tally for the final margin of victory.
Van de Veerdonk and Coyle each had four goals and one assist while Stern finished the game with one score and four assists.
Senior Chris Miles made 14 saves in goal for Oneonta in picking up the win.
The Red Dragons will be at SUNY Geneseo this Saturday for the SUNYAC opener for both squads.
