The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team had two shots to win in the waning seconds, but came up short, 47-46 at Oswego tonight in SUNYAC action.  The two teams were battling for a possible third seed in the upcoming conference tournament, as Oswego had a half-game lead over Oneonta entering tonight's contest.

The win for the Lakers (16-7/10-6) put them in the driver's seat for the No. 3 spot with two games remaining while Oneonta (12-12/9-8) must win to be in the mix for one of the six SUNYAC tournament spots.  Oneonta will be at New Paltz this Friday night for the regular season finale.  New Paltz has already clinched the top seed and a first round bye for the tournament, which begins next Tuesday night, Feb. 19.

A pair of free throws by junior Kristin Pappalardo (Mahopac/Lakeland) with 21 seconds to go in the game cut Oswego's lead to 47-46.

On the ensuing possession, Oneonta fouled Jenn Robbins to put her at the line shooting 1-and-1.  Robbins missed and freshman Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) grabbed the rebound with 17 seconds left before the Red Dragons called timeout with 10 seconds on the clock.

On the inbounds play, sophomore Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) missed a lay-up, but junior Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford) grabbed the rebound and had a lay-up of her own that fell off the rim to Kassie Kleine, who was fouled with one second remaining.  Kleine missed the free throw and time expired on the rebound.

Junior Kelly Mulligan (Pearl River/Pearl River) led Oneonta with 11 points while Price added 10 points and nine boards.

Oneonta's only lead tonight came on the game's first basket.  The Red Dragons trailed 28-26 at halftime after shooting 34 percent and being outrebounded 23-15.
