Men's swimmers defeat New Paltz, Women fall

Full Meet Results

For the first time since the 1970's, the SUNY Oneonta men's swimming & diving team defeated the New Paltz Hawks in a dual meet.  The Red Dragons won 126-74 to raise its dual-meet record to 3-1.

On the women's side of the ledger, Oneonta was downed by the Hawks 130-75.

Highlighting the men's list of winners was junior Ryan Walsh who set a New Paltz pool record in the 100-yard butterfly.  His winning time in the event was 52.82, which lowered the pool mark of 53.00.  Walsh also was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay that opened the meet for the Red Dragons.

Senior Alex Miller and freshman Joseph Galan each won two individual events on the day to lead Oneonta.  Miller won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke while swimming the leadoff leg for the winning 200 medley relay.  Galan picked up victories in the 200-yard IM and the 500-yard freestyle, setting a personal best mark in the IM.

Single event winners included sophomore Colton Roe in the 50-yard freestyle, classmate Daniel Donaghy in the 1000-yard freestyle and freshman Lucas Santiago in the 100-yard freestyle.

The women had a pair of individual event winners, as senior Jacqueline Haight and junior Alexxa Poliachik won the 100-yard breaststroke and 100 butterfly respectively.  Haight set a personal best mark of 1:11.88 in winning her event.

The women also had six, second place winners in today's meet.  Junior Lindsey Molfino was second in both the 100 back and 200 free.  Freshman Taylor Waldrop set a personal best mark in the 500 free of 5:24.10 in finishing second in that event.

Senior Kristin Magliola, junior Chandler Shepard and freshman Lauren Zentko posted second place finishes in the 200 IM, 50 free and 1000 free respectively.

The men's and women's divers, who did not compete in today's meet, will be in action tomorrow at the Ithaca Diving Invitational.
