Baseball shuts out Plattsburgh 7-0 on the road

Red Dragons receive another solid pitching performance

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Oneonta State junior Steve Lambert (White Plains/White Plains) pitched eight scoreless innings today in leading the Red Dragons to a 7-0 shutout at Plattsburgh.  The win moved Oneonta to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in the SUNYAC while the loss dropped Plattsburgh to 13-10 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

Tory Bouyea (Plattsburgh/Plattsburgh) led off the game for Oneonta with a single to left field before stealing second base. Bouyea advanced to third on a groundout before scoring on a single by Dean Haussel (Sound Beach/Miller Place) to give Oneonta an early 1-0 lead.

Haussel struck again in the top of the third, ripping a two-run single to left field to score Bouyea and Ivan Plata (Guilderland/Guilderland) and put the Red Dragons up by three runs.  Senior Kevin Knack (Ghent/Ichabod Crane) stretched the Oneonta lead to 5-0 in the fourth with a two-run single to center field.

Haussel and Knack finished the afternoon with three hits apiece. Bouyea and Chris Massaroni (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) each added two hits for the Red Dragons.

Pedro Gonzalez led Plattsburgh with two hits. Damian Tyler, Chris Pescetti and Brian Latulipe each picked up one hit for the Cardinals.

Lambert earned his first win of the season for Oneonta, tossing eight innings of shutout ball. Lambert allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five. Dan Tracy suffered the loss for Plattsburgh after giving up four earned runs on seven hits through 3 1/3 innings. Mike Doughtie allowed two runs through the final 5 2/3 innings.

The Red Dragons are at Ithaca tomorrow for a single game with the Bombers beginning at 3:30pm.
