Oneonta State freshman Rachel Hitt threw a complete game, six-hitter to lead the softball team to a doubleheader split today at Brockport. Hitt struck out two batters in seven innings as the Red Dragons won game 1 of the twin bill with the Golden Eagles.
The lone run for Oneonta (10-18/4-8 SUNYAC) came in the sixth inning. The run came on a leadoff home run by freshman Nicole Marzillo over the center field wall. Marzillo finished with a pair of hits, as did classmate Nicole Brieva.
In game 2, Oneonta jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. Back-to-back singles by Tricia Kendziera and Lauren Campbell started the game for Oneonta. A fielder's choice put out Kendziera at third before a single by senior Kalyn Deso loaded the bases. Candler Campbell singled through the right side to drive in the first run. Freshman Shannon McQueeney then singled through the right side to drive in a pair of runs.
Brockport scored single runs in their first three innings to tie the score. A three-run fifth inning gave Brockport a 6-3 lead that they would hold on to en route to the victory.
Freshman Katie O'Flynn went six innings for Oneonta and suffered the loss. She allowed 12 hits and five earned runs while striking out five batters.
Oneonta is scheduled to be at SUNY Geneseo for a SUNYAC doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12pm.
