The SUNY Oneonta swimming & diving teams traveled to SUNY Cortland today for the final dual meet of the first semester and came away with a split. The men defeated Cortland 153-145 while the women fell 195-103. For the men, it was the second straight year that Oneonta has defeated its rival.
Leading the men was the foursome of seniors
Alex Miller and Alex Vaughn and juniors Jermaine Miller and Ryan Walsh. Each swimmer won two events each to account for Oneonta's eight individual wins. Oneonta also won one relay on the day, as both Vaughn and
Alex Miller teamed with sophomore Colton Roe and freshman Lucas Santiago.
Alex Miller's wins came in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events. Vaughn's wins were in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events. Jermaine Miller won both diving events while Walsh won the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events. In the 1-meter diving event, Miller reached his third NCAA qualifying score of the season.
Leading the women with a pair of wins was sophomore Carly Cahill, who won the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke.
Oneonta's only other winner on the women's side was junior Alexxa Poliachik, who won the 100-yard backstroke.
The men enter the break 2-1 in dual meets while the women are 1-2. Both teams will be back in action again during their winter training trip in Florida, where they will participate in the Bob Mowerson Invitational.
