Women's soccer bows out of SUNYAC tournament

Red Dragons season ends with 1-0 loss to Geneseo

The visiting Geneseo Blue Knights made its early first half goal stand up today in eliminating Oneonta State from the SUNYAC tournament.  The loss for the Red Dragons ends its season at 7-9-1 overall while Geneseo will advance to play Cortland this upcoming Wednesday in the SUNYAC semifinals at Cortland.  The loss for Oneonta will also end its string of NCAA tournament appearances at 12.

Geneseo (13-4-1) scored its goal in the sixth minute of play this afternoon.  It was senior Kelly Bergin (Middletown/Pine Bush) who finished a crossing pass from the right side of the box by classmate Anne Beinetti (Honeoye Falls).

Oneonta held a 16-10 shot advantage and an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks, but couldn't sneak one past Julia Sanger (Penfield/Fairport), who collected four saves in the game.

Senior Amy Lusby (West Babylon/N. Babylon) (West Babylon/North Babylon) made seven stops in her final collegiate game.
