Oneonta, NY – The Oneonta State women's soccer team started its conference schedule on a strong note with a 3-0 victory against the New Paltz Hawks. The difference in play was shots on goal as Oneonta out shot New Paltz 18 to 3 on the day.


The Red Dragons controlled the tempo of the game with its strong defense lead by senior captain Caitlin Burke (Manorville) and quick offense lead by junior Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park).

The ball barely broke midfield for New Paltz as the Red Dragons defense kept the Hawks to only one shot on goal in the first half, which allowed the Oneonta offense to have their chances. With six shots on goal for Oneonta, speedster Kori Hamm (Burlington Flats/Edmeston) (Burlington Flats) only needed one to put the Red Dragons on the board, splitting the defense in the 39th minute of play putting them ahead 1-0 before the half.

Oneonta wasted no time in the second half putting the ball into the box. Sisters Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park) each started the half with a shot on goal in the first 30 seconds of play. Dana had three more shots on goal before it paid off. In the 76th minute of play, Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), like Hamm, was able to dribble right past the defenders and the keeper to score easily in a wide open net.

With the Red Dragons up 2-0, DeSimone, Karly that is, also made her presence felt with an assist off the header goal by freshman Mary Gray (Valley Cottage/Nyack) (Valley Cottage) in the 86th minute of play to put the game away for Oneonta 3-0.
