Box Score
ONEONTA, N.Y.—SUNY Oneonta freshman,
Sarah Bobroff (Katonah/John Jay) (Katonah), picked a good time to score her first two collegiate goals. The rookie notched a pair today including the game-winner in the second overtime to left the Red Dragons to a 3-2 win against visiting Plattsburgh in SUNYAC action. The win for Oneonta (8-3-1/4-1-1 SUNYAC) puts them into first place ahead of the Cardinals (8-2-1/3-1-1 SUNYAC), who dropped its first conference game of the year.
Bobroff's winning goal came right at the 104 minute mark with an assist from classmate
Amanda Regensburger (Selden/Newfield) (Selden), who sent a ball into the box from the left flank. Bobroff finished off the play with a shot to the far post that found the inside of the goal.
Regensburger also assisted on Bobroff's first goal of the game in the 56th minute that tied the score at 1-1. Regensburger was able to pass the ball to Bobroff inside the box where she fired a shot that deflected off the inside of the left post and into the back of the goal.
The two teams battled tightly in the first half of play with the shots being 5-4 in favor of Oneonta at the end of 45 minutes. The only problem was that one of Plattsburgh's shots found the back of the goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
Junior Lindsey Keyser took a drop pass from sophomore Kristie Pageau and took a shot from inside the box that soared over the Oneonta keeper's head.
Out of halftime, the Red Dragons turned up the attack and began an assault on the Plattsburgh defense that resulted in some early opportunities to tie the score. After Bobroff's tying goal, less than two minutes later, the Red Dragons struck again to take a 2-1 lead.
Senior
Nha Wright (Schenectady) sent the ball across the goal on a corner kick that freshman
Melissa Guglielmo (Somers/Somers) (Somers) got her head on to get the ball out in front of the goal. From there, freshman
Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park) collected the loose ball and shot it by the Plattsburgh keeper.
The Cardinals didn't go quietly as they came back to tie the score in the 68th minute on a goal by senior Liz Radigan. A shot by freshman Kayla Rabideau deflected off an Oneonta defender right to the foot of Radigan, who finished the play with a bullet to the back of the goal.
Oneonta will be at home again tomorrow when it plays host to SUNY Potsdam beginning at 3:00 p.m.
