Women’s soccer claims city bragging rights defeating Hartwick

Brantmeyer led Red Dragons with two goals

ONEONTA, N.Y.—For a second straight year the Red Dragons claimed city pride by defeating cross-town rivals Hartwick 5-1.

The game started off with Hartwick(5-5-2) coming out fast. In the 3rd minute of play, Kate Bosy was able to pass the ball quickly to Briana Crow who shot it past the Oneonta defense.

Once Oneonta(10-3-1) felt the pressure they never looked back. The physical play of sophomore Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) (Center Moriches) paid off in the 9th minute of play when she dribbled up the middle right past the defense to tie the game 1-1.

In the 18th minute of play junior Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park) scored her 10th goal of the season. Amanda Regensburger (Selden/Newfield) (Selden) was able to pas the ball from the left wing to DeSimone who chip-shot it up and over the keeper to put Oneonta ahead 2-1 at the half.

The second half was all Oneonta and started with a corner kick. In the 51st minute of play, Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park) scored off the corner kick from senior Nha Wright (Schenectady/Duanesburg) (Schenectady).

Five minutes later Brantmeyer was back in action scoring after Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) passed the ball into the middle where Brantmeyer lasered the ball past the keeper to put the Red Dragons up 4-1.

With 10 seconds left to play, freshman Carly Rosen (Wantagh/MacArthur) (Wantagh) was able to sneak past the Hawks defense to get one final goal for the Red dragons to close the game out 5-1.

Oneonta out shot Hartwick 23-7 and had four more corners in the game.

This was Oneonta's final home game of the regular season. Their next gave they will be travelling to nationally ranked William Smith(11) on Saturday October 16th, game will start at 2:00 pm.
