Kate Wilverding (Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianney) each scored 12 points to lead the Red Dragons to a 71-49 win against visiting Plattsburgh in SUNYAC women's action today. It was the second straight victory for Oneonta on back-to-back days in the conference.
Oneonta (2-3/2-0) took its 16-point halftime lead and continued to build it throughout the second half. A basket by Wilverding at the 11:27 mark of the second half gave the Red Dragons a 21-point lead at 44-23.
Oneonta had 16 steals in the game including four by Chrystie. The Red Dragons held a 59-41 advantage on the boards including a 20-12 advantage off the offensive glass. Freshman
Gabi Regan (Troy/Columbia) led all players with 12 rebounds including nine on the offensive end. Regan also had eight points, three steals and a block.
Oneonta shot 35 percent in the first half in building a 33-17 lead. Chrystie led all scorers with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooing including 2-for-2 from behind the arc.
The game was close at 7-6 at the 15:51 mark after Chrystie hit a three. The Red Dragons began to pull away during the next five minutes, getting its lead to double digits for the first time at 18-8 with 9:05 left in the opening 20 minutes.
Sophomore Stephanie McCoy (Kingston/Kingston) led Plattsburgh (2-5/0-2) with 10 points while freshman Caitlin O'Keefe (Greenwood Lake/Tuxedo) scored nine points and grabbed a team high 11 boards.
The Red Dragons will play again this coming Tuesday when they travel to the other hill to take on Hartwick beginning at 6:00 p.m.
