ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's soccer team will travel down to New Paltz for the first round of the SUNYAC tournament on Saturday, November 1, at 2 pm at South Turf Field. General admission tickets are cash only and $7 for adults, $5 for children and free for any SUNYAC students with ID.
The Red Dragons finished the regular season 10-4-3 overall and were tabbed the fifth seed in the conference tournament after going 5-2-2 in SUNYAC play. The Hawks went 10-3-4 in the season and also posted a 5-2-2 conference record, however they were named the fourth seed after winning the head-to-head matchup in the regular season.
The two teams met one another just recently, on October 22 at Red Dragon Field, where New Paltz came away with a 1-0 decision. The Hawks had one defender carded twice before the 10th minute and had to play a man down for the rest of the match. Alex Wyant then scored the game-winner for New Paltz in the 14th minute.
Oneonta has their offensive attack spread out as eight players have multiple goals, and 10 different players have recorded a game-winner this season. Sophomore
Tommy Kliampas (South Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) leads the team and is tied for third in the SUNYAC with eight goals for 16 points. Kliampas' point total is fifth in the conference. Senior
Joe Holder (Greenwood Lake, N.Y./Warwick) is tied for eighth in the league with 14 points off six goals and two assists, and senior
Milton Mancias Magana (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) has recorded five goals and three assists for 13 points, which is the 10th-most points in the SUNYAC.
Seniors
Luigi Prosperi (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and
Sam Rogers (Broadalbin, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) both recorded three goals and three assists this year for nine points, while junior
Zach Tanner (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) totaled nine points with two goals and the team-high five assists, the fifth most in the conference. Senior
Zach Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) is tied for eighth in the SUNYAC with four assists and has found the back of the net twice for eight points, and sophomore
Nico Loaiza (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) has added three goals and two assists for eight points.
Oneonta's defensive backline this season has consisted of seniors
Dillon Kelly (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Beacon),
Braeden Morrison (Marathon, N.Y./Marathon), juniors
Derek Jaramillo (Mahopac, NY/Lakeland),
Adrian Matute (Islip, N.Y./Islip), sophomore
Anthony Traube (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) and freshman
Noah Hechler (Somers, NY/Somers). Kelly and Jaramillo are the only two of the defensive core that have appeared in every game this season.
Junior
Imari Harris (Kingston, NY/Kingston) has started every game alongside Rabadi, Kelly, and junior keeper
James Cintron (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketcham). Harris, Kelly, and Traube have all contributed on the offensive side with a goal and an assist for three points.
Cintron has manned the net for Oneonta for all 17 games this season. The junior keeper totaled 52 saves for a .776 save percentage in the regular season and recorded seven shutouts while allowing 0.92 goals against per game.
On the other side of the field, New Paltz's offense is led by Wyant, who has recorded eight goals and five assists for 21 points this season, which is third in the conference. The Hawks have four different players with five goals in Kieran Weber, Colin Brant, Brandon Dhanoolal, and Bryan Lizama. Ryan Zindler co-leads the SUNYAC with eight assists and has totaled two goals for the Hawks. Their main goalkeeper, Matt Katz, has started 11 games this season and saved 20 shots for a .769 save percentage while allowing 0.56 goals per game.
The winner between Oneonta and New Paltz will advance to the semifinals and play at Cortland on Wednesday, November 5.
