ONEONTA, N.Y. -- SUNY Oneonta women's basketball's senior
Molly Stephens (LaGrange, NY/Arlington), junior
Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy), and sophomore
Emma Schwarzbeck (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill Senior High School) were named to the 2023-24 Division III Academic All-District team, as announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), Tuesday afternoon. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. This is the second time Stephens and Zuntag have been selected to the CSC Academic All-District team.
To be recognized on the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing and enrolled full-time with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. The student-athletes must also have competed in 90 percent of the institutions' games or must start in at least 66 percent of games.
Schwarzbeck, a sports management major with a 3.89 cumulative GPA, appeared in all 26 games and started 25. She averaged 6.0 points and 4.4 rebounds this season, while leading the team in free throw percentage (.786). The sophomore guard was second on the team in three-pointers made (19), steals (28) and third in assists (51).
Stephens is an exercise science major with a 3.71 cumulative GPA and started 25 of the 26 games she played. The senior forward led the team in several categories including points (317, 12.2 ppg), assists (66), steals (39), three-pointers made (26), and minutes played (30.5 per game). Stephens' success earned herself Second Team All-SUNYAC honors, the first time in her career.
Zuntag has a 3.97 cumulative GPA with a major in early childhood education and was the only Red Dragon to start all 26 games this season. The junior center was second on the team in points (247, 9.5 ppg), rebounds (147, 5.7 rpg), and field goal percentage (.395).
Oneonta finished the year 10-16 and clinched the six seed in the SUNYAC tournament.
