    Baran was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Oneonta State baseball team from 1968-71. During his four seasons the Red Dragons captured four straight SUNYAC championships.
A three-time All-SUNYAC selection he was second on the team in hitting in 1968 with a .317 average including a .342 average in conference play. That season he led the team in hits (19), runs (13), total bases (25), RBIs (11) and doubles (4).
In 1969 he drove in a team best 16 runs while hitting .318 and made only two errors in the field. As a senior he was team co-captain.
Baran, who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History, spent 33 years with the New York State Department of Labor post graduate, retiring in 2006 as the Director of New York State Unemployment Insurance Taxes.
