    Honorary Inductee
Appel, who will be the tenth Honorary Inductee into the Hall of Fame, has had a distinguished career in the field of journalism and television after graduating in 1970 with a degree in Political Science.  Appel has become a preeminent authority on baseball history, specifically the storied history of the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball.

Appel began working in the office of Public Relations for the Yankees in 1968 and was promoted by late Owner, George Steinbrenner, to Director in 1973, making him the youngest ever in the history of MLB.

After leaving the Yankees in 1977, Appel was a spokesperson for Commissioner Bowie Kuhn in 1979-80.  He then ventured into television, working for WPIX from 1980-92, as both the Public Relations Director and as the Vice President for Sports.  He was the Executive Producer of Yankee, Giants and Jets telecasts.

During the early and mid-1990’s Appel served in various public relations capacities for the Atlantic Olympics, MLB and The Topps Company.  In 1998, he started Marty Appel Public Relations, which he is still involved with.

Appel has authored 24 books including multiple New York Times best-sellers.  He won an Emmy in 1992 for his production of “Billy Martin: Forever a Yankee”.  He is still a frequent guest on the YES Network as well as many appearances on ESPN, MLB Network, HBO Sports, CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox Sports.  He also spent more than 20 years as a contributing writer of enshrinement plaques for Baseball Hall of Famers.
