The SUNY Oneonta wrestling defeated the Oswego Lakers today 27-18 on Senior Day.  The win for the Red Dragons snapped a nine-match dual losing streak, as they begin their stretch run towards the Regional championships in late February.
 
Jacob Yankloski got Oswego off with a 3-1 win against Dominic DeGraba (Dallas, PA/Dallas) to open the match at 125 pounds.
 
Oneonta (3-11) then ripped off four straight wins including a pair of pins at 141 pounds by Richard Dennison (Port Jervis, NY/Minisink Valley) and 157 pounds by Thomas Marrone (Pleasantville/Pleasantville).  Anthony Messina (Farmingville/Sachem East) took a 6-4 win at 133 pounds in sudden victory while Daniel Murphy (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) won 2-0 at 149 pounds.
 
Trailing 18-3, Oswego took a 4-3 decision at 165 pounds while Troy Seymour registered a pin against Lantze Lange (Smithtown/Smithtown West) to move the Lakers to within 18-12 entering the 184 pound match.
 
In what turned out to be the bout of the match, freshman Ryan Marszal (Unadilla/Unatego) turned a 7-5 deficit into a pin at the buzzer to swing the match nine points and give the Red Dragons a 24-12 lead.
 
A pin by Daniel Smith at 197 pounds brought Oswego to within six points, but freshman Peter Pjetri (Suffern/Suffern) wrestled up and took a 3-2 decision win at 285 pounds to seal the win for Oneonta.
 
Today was the final home match of the season for the Red Dragons who are in action again on Tuesday night at King's College.
